Phonics

Phonics allows children decode effectively and develop a love of reading which in turn allows them to access material to learn about every subject or interest they may have. Essentially phonics is the cornerstone for allowing a child to develop into a life-long resilient learner. Phonics is vital. But what exactly is phonics? See below to gain a brief insight:

We value this approach immensely and have invested in it by having an external consultant supporting the school regularly to ensure that the quality of our phonics teaching is at its pinnacle so that the children make rapid progress. We have seen improvements in the outcomes of our children now for the past two years; with this year expected to surpass expectations now that the approach has been robustly embedded.

Children that find it hard to develop their phonetic understanding are given mastery group and individualised sessions dependent on their need in the afternoon with pre and post learning sessions to ensure that they make progress. We also work with our families by offering phonics workshops and ongoing support as we work together to ensure that all children reach their potential.
