Messages from the Principal, Miss Jarrett

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this message finds you well! We’ve had a wonderful start to the term, and I wanted to share some of the exciting events that have been happening and those coming up soon.

Hero House Celebration
What an incredible morning we had at the Hero House celebration event! Even though the rain made an appearance, it didn’t dampen our spirits. We simply adjusted our plans from the outdoor sports event on the field to a fantastic indoor dance celebration. It was a joy to see the students' energy and enthusiasm! We also introduced our Hero House Captains - see details of these below in our Student Leadership section.

World Mental Health Day – Wear Yellow!
This Thursday, we will be celebrating World Mental Health Day. To raise awareness, we encourage everyone to wear yellow. Every year, thousands of schools, companies and communities come together to make World Mental Health Day that little bit brighter by wearing something yellow and donating to Young Minds.

Right now, the world is a really tough place for children and young people to grow up in. We want young people to know that they don’t have to go through this alone. Things can get better.

This World Mental Health Day, wear yellow with thousands of others across the UK and raise money to show young people that they’re not alone with their mental health.

Because we stand brighter, together.

Baby and Toddler Group
I am excited to announce that our first baby and toddler session of the year will be talking place next Thursday. If you have a younger child who has not yet started school, please do come along and join the fun. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and for the little ones to socialise!

Open Day for Reception 2025
We are also hosting our first Open Day of the year for parents of children due to start Reception in September 2025. This will take place on 15th October after school at 5pm. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please spread the word and register with the school office. We look forward to welcoming new families to our school!

Thank you all for your continued support. We have so much to look forward to in the coming weeks!

Warm regards,

Miss Jarrett

Harvest Collection Competition

As we enter the season of harvest and gratitude, our school is excited to announce a special opportunity to give back to our community! We are organising a Harvest Food Collection to support our local food bank, and we need your help.

From the 7th October 2024 to 21st October 2024, we will be collecting non-perishable food items. We are forwarding a list shared by Slough Food Bank. Please send your donation in with your child so they can give it to their class teacher.

To encourage a spirit of giving, we are making this a friendly competition between classes. The class that collects the most food will be rewarded with a special treat!

We hope you’ll join us in making this a successful event and teaching our students the value of helping others during this season of giving.

Celebrating our Children!

Year 2 have been learning the story "The Big Bad Pig and the 3 little Wolves". They have used this story to write letters to the Big Bad Pig to teach him how to be kind and to write fairy tale character descriptions.

Year 2 have also used the Now Press Play resource to complete the Oceans and Seas lesson and learn about:

  • The different oceans and seas, and where they are in the world
  • The different characteristics of these oceans
  • The environmental threats faced by seas and oceans

Student Leadership

Our Hero House event was a great opportunity to get together with the others from your hero house, learn part of a dance and then perform this together with everyone in KS1.  Children learnt the dance to the song "Happy".  We all had such a good time dancing, we didn't get any photos but do watch out for more Hero House competitions coming soon!

We have realised that some children in Year 1 and 2 have somehow swapped hero houses from the house they were originally allocated! You may therefore be contacted by your child's class teacher to re-allocate them so please don't be surprised if you get a message!

Our new Hero House Captains from Year 2 and the teachers are:

The Nest

Pupils from The Nest had an incredibly exciting and enriching visit to Pizza Express, where they got hands-on and made their own pizzas from scratch! For our sensory learners, the experience was full of delight—feeling the soft dough, smelling the fresh ingredients, and watching their creations bake in the oven. This hands-on activity helped build their sensory awareness while fostering real-world skills, boosting their confidence and independence. Additionally, the children now take part in weekly trips to Cippenham Library, where they continue to develop their social awareness by choosing and listening to stories, further enhancing their understanding of the world around them.

Year 1 and 2 Skipping Workshops with Dan the Skipping Man!

On Friday, our Year 1 and Year 2 students had an exciting day as they took part in skipping workshops run by Dan the Skipping Man. The children absolutely loved learning new skipping skills and tricks, and Dan’s enthusiasm made the whole event even more fun!

Skipping is not only a fun activity but also brings a range of fantastic benefits for children. It helps improve coordination, balance, and agility, and is a great way to build cardiovascular fitness. It’s also an excellent activity for developing rhythm and timing, while keeping things playful and enjoyable for the students.

We’re hoping this event has inspired the children to continue skipping during their free time, both at school and at home. A huge thank you to Dan the Skipping Man for such an engaging and active session!
