Messages from the Principal, Miss Jarrett

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents, Teachers, and Children,

As we wrap up another incredible school year, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to making this one of our most successful years ever. Your dedication and hard work have truly shone through in every aspect of our school life.

A special thank you goes out to everyone who supported our summer fair. We raised an unprecedented amount, thanks in no small part to the fun and excitement of the "Soak the Teacher" event.  In total we raised an astounding £1466! This money will significantly enhance your children's learning experiences. A huge round of applause to Nikki from our school office and our parent volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the fair's success.

I also want to express my gratitude for all the birthday wishes I received last week. It was completely unexpected and made my birthday truly special.

Today, we said farewell to our wonderful Year 2 students. Over the past three years, you have all been amazing, and we know you will continue your journey of excellence at your new schools. We will miss you dearly, so please do say hello if you see us on the Cinder track!

We also bid goodbye to several staff members: Mrs. Hester, Mr. Pell, Mrs. Girn, Miss Maryam, and Miss Awo. Their hard work and dedication to Phoenix Infants have been invaluable, and we thank them sincerely for their service.

Your support this year has been unparalleled. Parental engagement is at an all-time high, and this collaboration is making a tremendous difference in your children's lives. Thank you for being such an integral part of our community.

Have a wonderful summer break. Please encourage your children to participate in the summer reading challenge—keeping up with reading is crucial during the break. I look forward to seeing many of you back in September!

With warm regards,

Miss JArrett
Principal, Phoenix Infants Academy

Celebrating our Children!

Year 1 had an amazing time at Eton Musuem of Life at Eton College this term. They learned how life was very different at a rich Victorian School compared to the poorer schools we have studied in school. There were some similarities. Both schools used ink and quills. But at a rich school they slept there; this is called boarding. Boys still board at Eton College today.

In English, Year 1 have been writing a letter to reception. They gave some amazing advice and wrote about what we do in year 1.  They also completed some fantastic Design and Technology learning, creating shelters and taxi's!

Kulraj - My shelter kept falling down so Zumar helped me. We used so much tape until it stood up.

Khatiba - It was fun to make a taxi. Me and Gurjas painted the taxi red and yellow and orange, We used sticks for axels.

We held our annual Arts Exhibition, with the focus this year on being able to enjoy arts activities together - with photography, music, drama and sketching activities on offer to have a go.

Samaira - My favourite was the colouring and the taking photos.

Haider - It was fun and I made music with the glass jars.

As you will know from previous newsletters we have invested in "Now Press Play" resources, which are headphones that can be used to support curriculum learning. We have been trying these out this term, in preparation for full role out in September.

Brielle - I enjoyed pretending and choosing the rabbit for mum. I learned to be kind.

Aayan - It was really fun. The best part was pretending to be at the fun fair and playing the games.

Our Year 2 children loved their wet, rainy day at the beach! We didn't let the weather stop us and enjoyed visiting the lifeboat station, playing on the beach, having a picnic (where some eagle eyed seagulls pinched a couple of sandwiches) and ate ice cream! This is the first time in 9 years we have taken children to the beach - it won't be the last!

Finally, Reception have been working on their plant knowledge and have been practising their sketching skills! They can now identify so many different plants, including gypsophila! Simply amazing.

Student Leadership

{item_alt_tag}

This year has seen opportunities abound for our children to develop their leadership skills.  We have had School Councillors, Eco Councillors, School Librarians and Play Leaders.  We would like to thank all the children for everything they have done to develop the school - you are all amazing!

Thank you also to parents in Year 2 for your donations to the food bank.  We raised £67 which we know they are incredibly grateful for and will go to helping families in our local community.

For children returning in September, School Council and Eco Council elections will take place early in the Autumn term - watch out for information on Dojo in September!

The Nest

The pupils in the Nest thoroughly enjoyed their recent boat trip, an adventure that provided not only a thrilling experience but also numerous educational benefits, thanks to Rivertime Boat Trust. Pupils had the opportunity to take part in an educational dental workshop provided by Healthy Smiles, where they learned about and explored various aspects of dental hygiene. To end a busy but fun academic year, we celebrated the pupils' achievements with staff and parents at Thomley Activity Centre. This event offered a perfect blend of recognition and enjoyment, allowing everyone to reflect on the year's successes and create lasting memories through engaging activities.

Sporting Updates

{item_alt_tag}

Sports Day at the end of June was a wonderful opportunity for our children to be active and enjoy PE! Sports day is carefully planned to ensure that children are as active as possible, hence there being a range of different activities rather than a series of races.  I know feedback from parents was that you really enjoyed being able to go around with your children and celebrate their successes on the different activities.

Next year we will be bringing back our KS1 Hero House Sporting Competition in the Autumn term! More information to follow in September.

Music Updates

We recently held our second Rocksteady Band Assembly! It was wonderful to see how the children who have been having lessons have progressed - they were truely amazing! Rocksteady will be continuing in the Autumn term.  If you would like your child to have lessons you can sign them up here:

https://shorturl.at/vXjwH

Lessons are available for all children from Reception to Year 2 and take place on a Wednesday morning during school time.  Children then perform in their bands to the school and their parents once a term.
