Messages from the Principal, Miss Jarrett

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents,

I hope this newsletter finds you well. We recently had a wonderful Transition Day, which provided our children with the opportunity to meet their new teachers. It was also delightful to meet our new EYFS children who will be joining us in September.

As the academic year draws to a close, we must say goodbye to some of our esteemed teachers. Mrs. Hester is leaving us to take on an exciting promotion as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Mr. Pell is moving on to teach in KS2, and Mrs. Girn will be transitioning to teach in nursery. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and contributions to our school and wish them the very best in their new roles.

At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome three new teachers to our team. Miss Purdy, an experienced teacher from another local Slough school, will be joining us as Kingfisher's teacher and our new Year 1 lead. Miss Steadman will be starting her teaching journey with us in Year 1, and Mrs. Rodgers, a very experienced Reception teacher, will be joining us in Magpie class with our youngest children. They all participated in Transition Day and we are excited to welcome them back in September.

Best wishes

Miss Jarrett

SAFEGUARDING

Water Safety Code

Water may look safe, but it can be dangerous.

Learn to spot and keep away from dangers. You may swim well in a warm indoor pool, but that does not mean that you will be able to swim in cold water. Children must not every be in water without an adult.  As we approach the summer when the weather should be hot, please think carefully whenever you are out and about near water.

Stop and think - spot the danger

There are many dangers with water, which can include:

  • It can be very cold
  • There may be hidden currents
  • It can be difficult to get out (steep slippery banks)
  • It can be deep
  • There may be hidden rubbish, e.g. shopping trolleys, broken glass
  • There may be no lifeguards there
  • It is difficult to estimate depth
  • It may be polluted and may make you ill

Stay together

  • It is always better to go to the water with a friend or family member
  • Children should always go near water with an adult
  • An adult can point out dangers or help if somebody gets into trouble.

Float

If you fall into the water unexpectedly – float until you can control your breathing. Then call for help or swim to safety.

Call 999

You may be able to help yourself and others if you know what to do in an emergency.

If you see someone in difficulty, tell somebody, preferably a Lifeguard if there is one nearby, or go to the nearest telephone, dial 999, ask for the Fire Service at inland water sites and the Coastguard at the beach.

Celebrating our Children!

Art club have created some lovely pieces of art this term! See some below.  We had a great time during art week, particularly creating poetry and doodling! Do come along during the art gallery as this will be a hands on chance to complete some art activities with your children!

Reception have been learning about plants - we have been impressed with the number of different flower names they now know, including sunflowers, bluebells and gypsophilia!

Student Leadership

{item_alt_tag}

As part of the NED Mindset Mission, they have given us yo-yos to sell. The School Council will be selling these in all three playgrounds on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning next week.

The yo-yos vary in price depending on the style; £6, £8, £10 and £13. Selling these allows the company to visit other schools at no cost, so it really is worth it. Our children loved the assembly and we would love to be able to help other children watch it!

Please remember, we can only accept cash.

The Nest

Pupils in The Nest had a very busy week! We kicked off the week by learning about sun safety, with some pupils proudly demonstrating their knowledge to Miss Jarrett by comparing their sun hats. Another remarkable event was Sports Day, where our pupils enthusiastically participated in various sporting activities, cheered on by parents and Year 2 sports leaders! Additionally, they had a fantastic time developing their social skills through fun, engaging activities and interactions with Mr. Bowskill.
