Dear Parents

I hope this newsletter finds you well as we embrace the beginning of the summer term here at Phoenix Infant Academy.

I am delighted to report that we've had an excellent start to the term, with a flurry of activities and events that have showcased the talent and enthusiasm of our students.

Our Key Stage 1 mini-marathon event was nothing short of fabulous! Despite the weather presenting challenges for our Early Years Foundation Stage participants (who had to move inside into the hall), the sun smiled upon Year 1 and 2, and the children's determination and sportsmanship shone through. A special thank you goes out to the children at Godolphin who lent their helping hands to ensure the success of this event.

In addition to our sporting endeavours, educational excursions have been in full swing. Our Resource Base provision students have been venturing out into the community, visiting the library and Aldi over the past two weeks. These trips are vital in supporting the development of essential life skills, and we are thrilled to provide such enriching experiences for our children.

Furthermore, I am thrilled to share news of our recent participation in the incredible dance festival. Ten of our students, ranging from Reception to Year 2, delivered a mesmerising performance, leaving us all in awe of their talent and dedication. Their hard work and commitment have truly paid off, and we are already eagerly anticipating our involvement in next year's event.

As always, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and, most importantly, our wonderful students for their continued enthusiasm and commitment to excellence.

Wishing you all a joyful and successful summer term ahead.

SAFEGUARDING

Road Safety

Last week, children in Year 1 attended workshops about Road Safety.  This is such an important topic and worth reminding everyone about! We strongly recommend walking to school as this has so many health benefits for your children as well as reducing pollution around the school.  If you must drive to school, please park further away from the school and walk. Remember children must be in a suitable car seat and wear a seat belt if they are in a car.

Petru - I enjoyed the road safety workshop. The best bit was crossing the road in the hall.

Aayan - When we are crossing the road we have to look left and right because a car might hit you.

Sabeen - We have to walk across the road sensibly.

Celebrating our Children!

This week we showcase some amazing mathematical learning that took place in Reception - we use the Mastering Number programme and this really helps to build fluency and confidence with number calculations.  We love that it links to Numberblocks (available on iPlayer) too! Reception have also started learning about where they live in Slough, and have already been creating some wonderful representations of places that are special to them.

Year 2 have been reading the book "The Sea Saw" by Tom Percival, which is about a teddy that goes missing at the beach.  They wrote descriptions of the seaside and then brought their own cherished toys to school and used them as a hook to write their own missing posters.

Student Leadership

{item_alt_tag}

Last week, our school librarians visited Waterstones book shop in Windsor to purchase some new, diverse books for the school library.  They enjoyed browsing the shelves and thought carefully about which books they thought would be best.

The Nest

Mini Marathon

Pupils from The Nest showed incredible enthusiasm and boundless energy as they participated in the mini-marathon! They tackled various sensory circuits for example mastering tasks like balancing, precision throwing at targets, crawling through tunnels, and sprinting with sheer determination. Well done to all the participants for their outstanding efforts and achievements!

Pupils have also been to Aldi, shopping! They were able to choose something to buy and then paid for it before coming back to school. An excellent learning opportunity.

Sporting Updates

Ten children, from Dance club, participated in Slough School Sports Network's first Dance Festival this week.  They were the youngest performers and demonstrated to everyone that dance is for everyone, no matter how old you are! They were absolutely incredible and we were so proud of them.

We are due to receive professional photographs and will share these as soon as we get them.

Parents were invited to come and watch the performances.  The feedback from parents has been amazing and included

"Absolutely specular, very impressive and enjoyable. Very well choreographed and put together. Every dance act was amazing. Better than I expected.”

“We had a wonderful experience and we were quite stunned to see what good guidance and support can achieve and bring out in young minds and what they’re capable of doing. We enjoyed the entire show thoroughly.”

Mini Marathon

The mini marathon was a huge success, despite challenges with the weather (who would have believed that we would be running in sunshine, when at lunchtime we had such a downpour?!).

Children run every day in the daily mile, and we could really see the impact of this when they were running the mini marathon!

Especial thanks go to our 3 year 2  photographers on the day - Diya, Rafia and Hiba - these photos are courtesy of their excellent photography skills!
