Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

As we stand at the cusp of another term's end, it's hard to believe how swiftly time has flown, leaving us with only the summer term awaiting. Reflecting on these past weeks, it fills me with immense pride to see the array of wonderful activities and achievements that have graced our school community.

From enchanting excursions to the iconic London Eye to the heartwarming efforts in fundraising for various charities, this term has been nothing short of extraordinary. Witnessing the blossoming talent of our Year 1 students on our new stage during their Spring performance was a highlight for many, marking the inaugural moments of what promises to be a thriving platform for creativity and expression.

A special note of gratitude extends to Mrs. Hussain and all those who contributed tirelessly to the resounding success of our first Phoenix Iftar celebration. Your dedication and enthusiasm truly embodied the spirit of our school community. To those who missed this memorable event, fear not, for its return next year is eagerly anticipated. Keep your eyes peeled, and be sure to join us in the festivities.

As we bid farewell to this term, I extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you for a restful and joyous Easter holiday. For those observing Easter this weekend, may it be filled with moments of love, laughter, and renewal. And to those celebrating Eid during the holidays, I extend heartfelt wishes for a blessed and joy-filled Eid. May this auspicious occasion bring peace, happiness, and harmony to your hearts and your families.

As we look ahead to the coming term, I am filled with excitement for the countless adventures and opportunities that await us. Let us approach the remainder of the academic year with enthusiasm, determination, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.

Wishing you all a rejuvenating break and looking forward to welcoming you back for the summer term.

Warm regards,

Miss Jarrett

Promoting good dental hygiene in children is essential for their overall health and well-being. Here are some effective strategies to encourage and maintain good dental habits in children:

  1. Lead by Example: Children often mimic the behavior of adults around them. Therefore, it's crucial for parents and caregivers to demonstrate good dental habits themselves. Let children see you brushing and flossing regularly and make it a family activity.

  2. Start Early: Begin caring for your child's oral health even before their first tooth appears. Clean their gums with a soft cloth after feeding to remove bacteria. As soon as their first tooth emerges, start brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste in a pea-sized amount.

  3. Establish a Routine: Set a regular routine for brushing and flossing teeth. Brush teeth at least twice a day, preferably after meals and before bedtime. Use a timer or make it a fun activity to ensure children brush for the recommended two minutes each time.

  4. Make it Fun: Turn dental care into a positive and enjoyable experience. Use colorful toothbrushes, flavored toothpaste, and play fun songs or games while brushing. Consider using educational videos or apps that teach children about the importance of dental hygiene in a playful way.

  5. Provide Proper Tools: Ensure children have the right tools for proper dental care, including a soft-bristled toothbrush that fits their mouth size and fluoride toothpaste recommended by their dentist. Replace toothbrushes every three to four months or sooner if the bristles become frayed.

  6. Encourage Healthy Eating Habits: Limit sugary snacks and drinks, as they can contribute to tooth decay. Instead, encourage a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products that support dental health. Encourage drinking water instead of sugary beverages.

  7. Regular Dental Check-ups: Schedule regular dental check-ups for your child, starting from their first birthday or as soon as their first tooth erupts. Routine visits to the dentist can help identify any dental issues early and ensure proper dental care.

  8. Educate About the Consequences: Teach children about the consequences of poor dental hygiene, such as cavities, toothaches, and gum disease. Help them understand the importance of taking care of their teeth and gums to maintain a healthy smile for life.

  9. Reward and Reinforce: Praise and reward children for their efforts in maintaining good dental habits. Consider creating a reward system or using stickers and charts to track their progress and reinforce positive behavior.

  10. Be Patient and Persistent: Developing good dental habits takes time and patience. Be consistent in reinforcing the importance of dental hygiene, even if children resist initially. With gentle encouragement and persistence, they will eventually adopt these habits as part of their daily routine.

By implementing these strategies, parents and caregivers can effectively promote good dental hygiene in children and lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Celebrating our Children!

Year 1 have been learning to write instructions recently.  This week they made some yummy Easter treats and written instructions on how to make them. Follow their instructions to make your own this holiday.

Year 1 have also been writing about their trip to the London Eye!

We love reading and writing poetry at Phoenix! Last week we celebrated World Poetry Day and classes across the school worked together to create a "Poet-Tree"! Reception created leaves and wrote adjectives to describe them and children in Year 1 and 2 wrote poems.  Watch this space for the Poet-Tree to be created!

Khadija in Year 2 wowed us again just this morning with her fabulous drawing skills! And Abiha wrote a story at home, illustrated it and brought it into school to read to her class! Just fabulous! Well done.

Thank you to everyone who supported our school council this week with their sale of beautiful knitted chicks, rabbits and ducks, all containing a creme egg, for the Alexander Devine Charity. The charity support children and families with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and is a very worthy cause.

The Nest

Pupils in the Nest have been very busy in the last past weeks from creating dots for Red Nose Day to participating in Easter cooking and creativity sessions.

Phoenix Iftar Celebration

This was, quite simply, joyous! Thank you again to everyone who participated - we are so pleased to have been able to facilitate this event and it will definitely be back next year!

I'm going to leave the final words to a parent:

"I wanted to say a huge thank you for hosting such a lovely iftar event today. This was such a thoughtful action by Phoenix Infants, and I love that it showed my son that his school community can come together to celebrate our beautiful month of Ramadan. Your event has added a layer to the spiritual upbringing I am trying to get him to benefit from, and we really enjoyed how all our different cultures came together for a fun evening! Adam didn't want to leave!"

Once again, thank you all for making it happen!

Music Updates

Last week we held our first Rocksteady concert! We have 3 bands who performed for the school and their parents. Children played the keyboard, drums, guitar and sang together very recognisable songs! It made us want to get up and dance and sing along with them! They have only been learning to play for 1 term and they were wonderful.

Chocolate Challenge

A huge well done to everyone who managed to reach the 100% challenge over the last 3 weeks.

Year 2 were the biggest winners, with both Falcon Class and Eagle Class battling for 1st place overall.

Mr Bowskill has definitely run out of Freddo's for this challenge!

There were many children who caught the recent sickness bug which had an impact on our overall success - so don't worry, Mr Bowskill will aim to do another challenge very soon!

Please remember that your child needs to be in school every day.
