Messages from the Principal, Miss Jarrett

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Guardians,

What a whirlwind of excitement these past few weeks have been at our school! From the enchantment of Book Week to the marvels of Science Week, and not forgetting the joy of hatching chicks, it's been a time filled with learning, discovery, and pure delight.

One of the highlights for me personally was taking our Year 1 students back to the London Eye. It was not only their first visit since before the challenges of Covid, but it was also my inaugural ride on this iconic attraction. Seeing the wonder and excitement on the children's faces was truly priceless, and I'm grateful for such memorable experiences.

As we look ahead, we're eagerly anticipating our upcoming Iftar celebration on Friday, March 22nd. This inclusive event is open to all our families. Please remember to reserve your spot via Parentpay, or indicate your willingness to contribute to our shared feast through the volunteers form via the link on Dojo. It promises to be a meaningful and joyous occasion for our community to come together.

With only two weeks remaining before the Easter holidays, our calendar is brimming with anticipation. One particular highlight on the horizon is the Year 1 performance in the last week of term - the first time our new stage will be in use. I can hardly wait to witness the talent and creativity of our young performers.

For those interested in extracurricular activities, clubs for the next term will be available for sign-up this week on Parentpay. Don't miss out on the opportunity to explore new interests and develop skills outside of the classroom.

Lastly, a friendly reminder that we will have an early finish at 1:45 pm on the last day of term, Thursday, March 28th. Please plan accordingly for pickup arrangements.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we make moments of learning and growth truly special for our students.

Warm regards,

Miss Jarrett

SAFEGUARDING

{item_alt_tag}

In today's digital age, ensuring the safety and well-being of our children online is paramount. As our young learners navigate the digital landscape, it's crucial for us as parents and caregivers to equip ourselves with knowledge and strategies to promote safe online practices. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  1. Supervision is Key: While the internet can be a valuable tool for learning and entertainment, it's important to supervise your child's online activities closely. Set clear boundaries and guidelines for when and how they can access digital devices.

  2. Use Child-Friendly Platforms: Introduce your child to age-appropriate websites, apps, and games that are specifically designed for young children. These platforms often have built-in safety features and content tailored to their developmental stage.

  3. Teach Responsible Behavior: Instill the importance of responsible online behavior from an early age. Teach your child to be cautious about sharing personal information online, such as their full name, address, or school.

  4. Open Communication: Foster open communication with your child about their online experiences. Encourage them to come to you with any questions or concerns they may have encountered while using the internet.

  5. Monitor Screen Time: Keep track of your child's screen time and encourage a healthy balance between online and offline activities. Set limits on device usage and promote alternative forms of play and interaction.

  6. Parental Controls: Utilize parental control features available on devices and internet browsers to restrict access to inappropriate content and monitor your child's online activity.

  7. Stay Informed: Stay informed about the latest trends and risks in children's online safety. Educate yourself on topics such as cyberbullying, online predators, and inappropriate content, and discuss these issues with your child in an age-appropriate manner.

  8. Lead by Example: Be a positive role model for your child by demonstrating safe and responsible online behavior yourself. Show them how to navigate the internet safely by modeling good habits and practices.

By working together and staying vigilant, we can create a safer online environment for our children to explore, learn, and grow.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding online safety, please don't hesitate to reach out to our school's safeguarding team.

Celebrating our Children!

This week Reception were "eggcited" to hatch chicks! This has inspired some fabulous writing and art work from the children and we are so impressed with their progress.

We have also been celebrating British Science Week with classes carrying out interesting experiments based around the theme of "Time".  Year 2 investigated what would happen when flowers were placed in coloured water. They made predictions and wrote descriptions of what happened.

In PSHE, Year 2 have been learning about keeping healthy. We made and tried some healthy snacks including; humous and veggies, avocado, tomatoes and oat biscuits and scones and fruit.

In Year 1, Heron and Swan classes this week visited the London Eye as part of their Geography learning this term.  They were very excited to identify lots of London landmarks they have been learning about, including the River Thames, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament and St Pauls Cathedral.  Kingfisher class are looking forward to visiting on Monday!

Art club this term have created many wonderful pieces of art, including some lovely Mothers Day cards and canvas paintings of flowers.  Art club will be running again in the Summer Term, so do sign up via Parentpay when these go live next week.

Student Leadership

{item_alt_tag}

Our school Librarians were back leading assembly in Book Week. They spoke to lots of teachers around school to find out their favourite books and then shared these with everyone in assembly.  The only teacher they had trouble finding out her favourite book was Miss Jarrett - because she has so many favourite books she gave a different answer everytime! Try asking her yourself this week!

Our School Councillors were also active this week, collecting money for Red Nose Day.  We raised £166.  Thank you to everyone who donated, both via our collection buckets or online.

And finally, our school Eco Councillors have been announced and held their first meeting this week! We have started completing an audit of how our environmentally friendly our school is and will then be creating an action plan to show how we can improve.

Our Eco Councillors are:

Reception: Liyana, Zaynah and Hewad

Year 1: Angelpreet, Alina and Khatiba

Year 2: Aarish, Akram and Ayan
