Messages from the Principal, Miss Jarrett

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you're enjoying the pleasant transition into the new half term - despite the cold, showery weather. It's been a fantastic start here at Phoenix Infant School, with a flurry of activities and initiatives aimed at enhancing our school community and providing enriching experiences for our children.

Firstly, I would like to extend my gratitude to all the parents who attended our inaugural Phoenix Infant Parent "PIP" Group meeting. Your enthusiasm and commitment to contributing more to our school community are truly commendable. These collaborative efforts are essential in ensuring that we continue to provide the best possible educational experiences for our children. For those who couldn't make it, we encourage you to reach out to the school office if you're interested in joining us in this endeavour.

Additionally, I'm delighted to announce that our Iftar planning session was successfully held. This year's first Iftar celebration promises to be a memorable event, scheduled for Friday, March 22nd. Further details regarding sign-ups and other pertinent information will be communicated through ParentPay and Dojo, so please keep an eye out for updates coming home next week.

Looking ahead, we have an exciting week planned for Book Week, commencing next week. We encourage all parents and children to participate in the various activities lined up. Don't forget to sign up for our special bedtime stories session on Wednesday evening, where children can enjoy the magic of storytelling before bedtime. Moreover, Thursday marks World Book Day, and we invite our young readers to come dressed as their favourite book characters, adding to the spirit of celebration and literary appreciation.

Furthermore, I'm pleased to announce the launch of our first Baby and Toddler Parents Group, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm. This provides an excellent opportunity for parents to connect, share experiences, and build a support network within our school community. We warmly welcome all parents of children under 3 to come along and join us for what promises to be a valuable and enjoyable gathering.

As always, we remain committed to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential. Thank you for your continued support and participation in our school community initiatives.

Wishing you all a wonderful and fulfilling month ahead.

Warm regards,

Amanda Jarrett

Principal, Phoenix Infant Academy

Celebrating 10 years of Talk PANTS!

Pantosaurus has helped 1.5 million parents Talk PANTS and keep their children safe.

Developed by the NSPCC in consultation with children, parents, carers and teachers, Talk PANTS is here to help children understand their body belongs to them, and they should tell a safe adult they trust if anything makes them feel upset or worried.

We use these resources in schools to teach children about staying safe.  Take a look at the NSPCC website for further support and guidance for parents.

Celebrating our Children!

Over the past couple of weeks we have had lots of great learning taking place! In Year 2 children have been writing descriptive sentences about the rocket that landed in their playground, and Miss Tranmer was particularly proud of Yusra and Kirti's independent writing, as seen below!

Elyza, in Year 2, has been working hard on her writing at home and has written a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing with us.

Year 1 tasted porridge and Kingfisher class wrote some descriptive sentences about it using adjectives. They are going to be reading and retelling the story of The Magic Porridge Pot over the next few weeks.

Student Leadership

{item_alt_tag}

This week children in Year 2 led our school assembly.  This focused on International Women's Day, which is on Friday 8th March. This is a day that is vital to raise awareness of gender equality and to challenge gender bias and discrimination that still exists today in many places.

Year 2 talked to us about inspiring women they have learnt about from the past and present, including Malala Yousafzai who campaigns for the right for all girls to have an education, Greta Thunburg who is a vocal campaigner for the environment, Rosa Parks who played a leading role in the Black civil rights movement in the 1960's and Emmeline Pankhurst who was a suffragette and fought for the right for women to have the vote.

The Nest

Pupils from the Nest actively participated in the African drumming event this week. They experienced the resonating beats of the drums, delved into unfamiliar musical instruments, attempted to compose their own drumming piece, and gained insights into African djembe drum and its distinctive sounds.

Bursts

This is an app that encourages children to be active at home. If you have not already registered, you will be receiving a new invitation to the app. In Friday assemblies, we will be celebrating the children and classes who have been most active each week so do log on today and help support your children to be as active as possible!

Music Updates

Our Rocksteady bands are preparing for their first concert, due to take place on 20th March! If your child is taking Rocksteady lessons, do make sure you have the date and time in your diary to come and watch!

This week we were lucky enough to have African Activities in school to deliver drumming workshops to every class! This was a fabulous opportunity for children to develop their understanding and feel for rhythm and beats in collaboration. We loved it!
