Messages from the Principal, Miss Jarrett

{item_alt_tag}

Happy New Year! I hope this message finds you well-rested and ready for the exciting opportunities that the coming months will bring. As we step into a new year, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and dedication to our shared mission of fostering a vibrant and enriching learning environment.

To kick off the year on a delightful note, we're hosting a Coffee and Cake Morning on Monday. It's a fantastic opportunity for our school community to come together, share stories from the holiday break, and rekindle the spirit of camaraderie. Join us in the  dining hall (via the main entrance on Warrington Avenue) from 9am onwards, and let's start this term with warmth, laughter, and, of course, a good cup of tea/coffee and a slice of cake.

As we embark on this new academic term, I want to emphasize the importance of staying informed about upcoming events and important dates. Please take a moment to check the school calendar for any updates or events scheduled in the coming weeks. Our calendar is a valuable resource to ensure you don't miss anything, from parent-teacher conferences to special student activities.

Your active involvement in the school community is what makes our learning environment truly special, and I look forward to another term of collaboration and shared successes. It was wonderful over the past week to see so many reception parents joining us for maths workshops.

Once again, wishing you a Happy New Year filled with joy, growth, and achievements. See you at the Coffee and Cake Morning!

Healthy Eating

In the whirlwind of a child's day, snack time is not just a moment of respite; it's a golden opportunity to provide essential nutrients that contribute to their growth, development, and overall well-being. Let's delve into the significance of incorporating healthy snacks into your child's diet.

1. Sustaining Energy Levels: Children are little bundles of energy, and their bodies require a constant supply of fuel. Healthy snacks, such as fruits, nuts, and yogurt, provide a sustained release of energy, helping your child stay active and focused throughout the day. Avoiding sugary and processed snacks can prevent energy spikes and crashes, promoting stable energy levels.

2. Meeting Nutrient Needs: Growing bodies have increased nutritional demands. Snacking allows for additional opportunities to meet these requirements. Incorporating a variety of nutrient-dense snacks ensures that your child gets essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients crucial for their physical and cognitive development.

3. Supporting Growth and Development: Calcium, iron, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids are just a few examples of nutrients vital for a child's growth and development. Snacks like cheese, yogurt, nuts, and whole grains contribute to bone health, muscle development, and brain function. These nutrients are building blocks for a strong and resilient foundation.

4. Fostering Healthy Eating Habits: Introducing healthy snacks at an early age establishes a foundation for lifelong eating habits. Children who are accustomed to reaching for nutritious options are more likely to make healthier choices as they grow older. This sets the stage for a positive relationship with food and a reduced risk of developing unhealthy eating patterns.

5. Balancing Blood Sugar Levels: Maintaining stable blood sugar levels is crucial for children's well-being. Snacks with a combination of complex carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats help regulate blood sugar, preventing mood swings, irritability, and the dreaded "hangry" moments. This balance supports emotional well-being and overall behavior.

6. Dental Health: Snacking can have implications for oral health. Choosing snacks that are low in sugars and high in fiber, like crunchy vegetables and fruits, promotes good dental hygiene. Encourage water consumption alongside snacks to help rinse the mouth and prevent cavities.

7. Teaching Portion Control: Snacking provides an excellent opportunity to teach children about portion control. Pre-portioned snacks or dividing larger snacks into smaller servings can help instill healthy eating habits and prevent overconsumption.

In conclusion, the importance of healthy snacking for children goes beyond satisfying hunger between meals. It lays the foundation for a lifetime of good health, supports optimal growth and development, and nurtures positive eating habits. By making mindful choices, we can ensure our children thrive in every aspect of their well-being.

A reminder that children should not have cakes or chocolate in their lunchboxes. We strongly recommend the school hot meals as these have been nutritiously balanced.  Please do not send in cakes or sweets for your child's birthday.  Fruit or a donated book to the class library are suggested alternatives.

Why not try the family snack challenge below to kick start healthy after school snack habits for the new year! And if you haven't yet signed your child up to an after school club take a look at parentpay today!

Eco Council - Coming Soon

What is Eco Council?

Eco Council is a group of pupils who meet each month to discuss eco friendly and environmental issues within school which prepares children to live their future lives with consideration for global issues. There will be one eco councillor from each class in EYFS and Key Stage 1

Why do we have an Eco Council?

-To ensure our school is eco-friendly and prepares pupils to live with reflection of the environment.

-To make sure each class has a platform to voice their opinions.

-To discuss and raise issues related to the environment.

How do I become an Eco Councillor?

In the coming weeks pupils will be able to apply to become an Eco Councillor. Pupils complete an application form and then teachers in EYFS choose the successful applicant. Key Stage 1 pupils then present themselves to the Key Stage 1 pupils with the reasons why they would make a good councillor.  Then pupils then vote for their favourite eco councillor.

Teachers will be handing out application forms to children  who would like to apply soon. You can help your child by talking to them about this opportunity and what they might like to do to make a difference for the environment.
