Arts Week 2023
Our theme for Arts Week 2023 was all about movement. The children experienced opportunities to explore movement in art in a variety of forms. They started the week taking on the role as photographers using iPads to capture how we move whilst jumping in the air. The children looked for the lines of trajectory in the captured photographs and used a range of media to edit their work with the lines of trajectory outlined.
Next up, the children transformed into fashion designers and drew their T-shirt designs. They then used a wide spectrum of colourful fabric paints to create their masterpieces! The teachers enjoyed making their designs too!
On to our focus artist of the week, Heather Day, an abstract artist https://heatherday.com we watched how Heather mixed media to create large scale abstract paintings. After all this inspiration, it was time for the children to explore how paint mixes together to create their unique canvas art!
After this, we introduced the next artist of the week, Jackson Pollock. We focused in on his 'drip technique' and how paint moves through the air to create art. This was a big messy but marvellous large-scale collaboration of artists! The giggles resounded through the playgrounds as we splattered and splashed to create a magical masterpiece of colour!
Throughout the week the children also demonstrated our school values as they persevered with great optimism in sketching several drafts of their class birds in flight.
We ended with a spectacular celebration of all the children's successes in our first school art exhibition! Thank you to all those who attended, it was wonderful to observe such excitement and pride in their creations. We are already planning next years, so watch this space!
