INCLUSION AND WELL-BEING

Thank you for your positive feedback on the last Inclusion and Well-Being newsletter.

This photo shows a wonderful Maths lesson in The Nest. The children were counting using autumnal objects.

The Nest is a smaller classroom for some of our children with additional needs. In The Nest, they have focused interventions and lots of fun, of course!

We have been working hard this term to improve the learning environment to ensure it is a calm, welcoming space for our amazing children. This has included:

- painting the walls and doors a more neutral tone (from the previous red!)

- buying (and building!) new workstations for all children

- adapting the lighting to make it more subtle

There has been so much positive feedback; from staff, parents and the children themselves through our observations of them accessing the space. Here are some examples:

"A Year 2 child is now doing tasks at her workstation for much longer. She is much more focused; I am so proud of her!" An Inclusion TA.

"Thank you for all of your help with my child (EYFS). I am so happy. It's a great space!" EYFS Parent.

"A Year 1 child enjoys sitting at his workstation; he knows where in the room it is and is starting to guide me to it." An Inclusion TA.

Outdoor Inclusion Area

During half-term, I spent some time revamping our inclusion outdoor area. It is not finished, but it's a huge improvement! The children now have access to various blackboards to mark-make, a sensory station and a sand/water pit. They will be able to plant seeds in the spring, and we are also looking to make various water stations for the summer months.

There are also some bugs secured to the walls to make it a calming and welcoming space.

We are looking to add more equipment, so watch this space!

Mind eLearning

Everyone has mental health. We just need to ensure we take care of it.

At Phoenix, we are passionate about supporting our whole school community with mental wellness and are looking forward to learning more to help everyone.

We have registered all staff with Mind's work eLearning course. This will support staff to improve their understanding and knowledge of mental health.

If you have concerns about your or your child's mental health, please speak to Miss Austin, Mental Health Lead, Mrs Pelazza or Miss Jarrett. Please also click HERE for resources and the contact details of people who can help.

National Grief Awareness Week

Between 2nd - 8th December, it is National Grief Awareness Week. It raises awareness of all aspects of grief and loss on a national scale.

Grief can be challenging, overwhelming and leave you not knowing how to move on. Sometimes speaking to someone outside your family or friends can really help. There are a list of charities below who you can call, otherwise please speak to a member of the Senior Leadership Team if you would like support.
