Friday 4th November 2022

Messages from the Principal, Mrs Pelazza

{alt_tag}

Welcome back to you all. I do hope you've had a lovely week's break.

We have had a wonderful start to the half-term. Reception celebrated Diwali with their families by making firework bread, hand painting and dancing!  We are also in the process of redesigning the Reception classrooms. Please check Twitter for photos!

It was also fantastic to welcome so many Year 2 parents/carers yesterday for the Curriculum Celebration Event. We hope you enjoyed viewing your children's learning and hearing about all their success.

Have a wonderful weekend!

EMPATHY

This half-term, we are promoting our next value: Empathy.

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Can you support your child to listen attentively when being spoken to, ask questions about a friend's interests or show a supportive smile when a friend is feeling sad?

Did you know, the Arabic word 'Rahma' means Empathy?

The word Rahma is used more than 100 times in the Quran and in fact there is a whole chapter in the Quran named Al-Rahman!

Muslims believe it is very important to show kindness, gentleness and goodness as well as love and empathy.

'Kind words and forgiveness are even better than charity.' Quran 2:263

SAFEGUARDING

{alt_tag}

BRAKE's top tips for keeping children safe near roads:

  • Children under 8 should always hold a grown up's hand when walking near roads
  • Children under 8 should always cross roads with a grown up, at a safe crossing place
  • Until they are 150cm tall, all children should sit in a correctly sized and fitted child seat when travelling by car
  • Children under 10 should not cycle on roads; they should keep to cycle paths away from motorised traffic
  • Children should always wear a helmet when cycling to protect their head if they fall off

Obstructive Parking

The dangerous parking on both Devon Avenue and Warrington Avenue causes regular concern.

I have contacted the Local Authority on many occasions. This has resulted in an increased presence of enforcement vehicles with cameras.

However, I believe a united community may have more impact.

If you would like to raise your concerns, please contact Slough Borough Council's Parking Enforcement Control Room on 01753 551018 or click HERE.

It was especially lovely welcoming extended members of our families - siblings, aunties, uncles and grandparents!

And thank you for the wonderful feedback received. We are all thrilled you had such a special time.

Please do get in touch if you would like to talk to our children about your faith.

Please complete this year's survey by END OF DAY TODAY: https://forms.office.com/r/mATY3JJckJ

Last year you told us:

You said: You would like more homework offline

We did: This year KS1 children will receive optional half-termly paper-based home learning for spelling, handwriting and curriculum based learning. This is in addition to the online learning platforms we will continue to use.

Geography at Phoenix

This term in Year 2, our children have been studying the physical and human features of coastlines. They investigated coastal erosion and the methods being used to slow or stop this.

Year 1 will be using Google Earth to explore London this half-term. The children will be locating various features such as bridges and airports, as well as searching for famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace. Can you help your child to locate their house and our school on Google Earth?

{alt_tag}

Come and Join our Chess Club!

{alt_tag}

Playing chess has been proven to significantly improve children's visual memory, attention span, and spatial-reasoning ability.

From Monday, children in Years 1 and 2 can join the Phoenix after-school chess club. It runs from 3:30pm-4:15pm every Monday for the following 5 weeks.

To book a place, please go to ParentPay. Numbers are limited, so spaces will need to be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The club only costs £1 for all 5 weeks.
